Ride-Hailing in New York State
You will soon be able to hail an affordable ride right from your smart phone – Transportation Network Companies (TNC’s) like Uber and Lyft are coming to the Buffalo region this summer!
Legislation adopted in April with the 2017-2018 New York State Budget authorizes these services to expand to Upstate New York. This new law takes effect on July 9th 2017. In the meantime, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is finalizing regulations for TNCs and their services.
The availability of Uber, Lyft, and other ride-hailing apps throughout the state will expand transportation options for residents and visitors alike in our community. Those interested in driving for Uber and/or Lyft must be at least 21-years-old. Both ridesharing companies are accepting applications, and more information can be found on their own websites.
